Tribological Performance of Biomass-Derived Bio-Alcohol and Bio-Ketone Fuels

This study relates to developing future alternative fuels and focuses on the effects of a fuel’s molecular structure its properties performance in advanced propulsion systems. The tribological various biomass-derived oxygenated fuels, including butanol, pentanol, cyclopentanol, cyclopentanone, gasoline their blends with diesel, was investigated. Lubricity tests were conducted using high-frequency reciprocating rig (HFRR). Cyclopentanone-diesel cyclopentanol-diesel result smaller wear scar sizes compared neat forms. A lower steel disc contaminated during HFRR resulted worn surface roughness values than those diesel by up 20%. It is believed that these reductions are mainly due presence hydroxyl group carbonyl alcohols ketones, respectively, which make them more polar consequently helps formation protective lubrication film moving surfaces sliding process. Overall, results from this indicate environmentally friendly cyclopentanol cyclopentanone practical efficient fuel candidates for
